Weekly Round-up (01/08 - 01/14)

1/16/2017 02:38:00 pm

This week was a little busier than most--or maybe because my period cramps were also killing me for half of the week that I felt my work pace become a little slower.

Monday started off with an overtime for a deck that we've been working on for a client. We wanted to polish it for Friday's presentation and I'm so glad that we made it and they also liked the additional things we added for the event styling at the last minute. It feels great to be able to understand and give the clients what they want.

By Wednesday, I was starting to feel a little slow because my cramps were already starting. I stayed in the office all day and hid in the studio because it felt comfortable to lay with my laptop on my tummy. The heat felt soooo good it made me want to hug my laptop for the rest of the day. Even if my uterus was being suicidal, I had to soldier up and meet up with my friends for dinner at Shang.

My friends are like pain relievers. I forgot that my cramps were killing me the whole day as soon as I saw them. I haven't seen Jacob and Joana in forever--kidding, we saw each other last December lol. Still, we're a pretty clingy bunch. We just laughed the whole time and spotted cute boys. I love my friends. Jacob had to leave pretty early because he has an early work the next day. After he left, we met up with Jo's parents at Planet Grapes for what is apparently a wine night. We had whatever they had and another round of Bad Boy wine for the both of us. It's no secret that I love wine, so, tonight was perfect--even if the cramps killed me a little.

The proposal poster of my friend for his girl at Myeongdeong Subway Station, Korea!

I got one of the best news on Thursday when my friend showed me the photo of his marriage proposal ad that we've been working on for the past month. I was so excited because it's the first time one of my illustrations made internationally! The ad runs for a month in one of the subway stations in Korea. If you're there, please take a photo of it! Oh and she said, YES to my friend. Congratulations, Everett and Kat!

Somehow, I always look forward to Fridays (Even if Shiela hates it. Sorry, ILY.) because we found a new hang out place near Mercato. I call it Hunger Games Arena because it looks like a big round pit with concrete benches circling the area. Very Hunger Game-ish. It's where we can talk about random things and topics while eating or just sitting. Hoping to all the gods that they won't put a fence on it or whatever because it's a really cool place.

Finally got to watch Sing last Saturday! I dragged Eliza for a catch up and movie date because I still owe her lots of "stories". The movie kept me laughing the whole time! Loved he songs and had my pizza craving curbed as well. Whenever I see Eliza, I realize I miss my UST friends so much. It's been awhile since I saw all of them. I should invite them all for a little something, I'm just not sure when I'll be free or when they'll be free. Lol.

Til' next week!

#2/52: Travel Essentials

1/15/2017 10:02:00 am

This week's 52 Week Instax Project (52P) theme is Rule of Thirds and I've decided to take a photo of my trusty luggage, Polka. We've been together for almost 10 years! I'm planning to retire it this year but I don't know how I'm going to upcycle it. Do you guys have any recommendations for upcycling an old luggage or bag?

There will be a few trips lined up for me this year, and I’m so happy because the first one is only a couple of weeks away, and it’s to Bacolod, The City of Smiles! My mom is also happy; it’s the first time I’ll be seeing our new house there! Recently, I’ve been more appreciative of the times where I get to travel or fly alone to a different place. It makes me more alert and I get to appreciate the things I see along the way.

Whenever I travel to a place other than Manila, I usually bring my travel essentials. As much as possible, I try to keep them all in one bag so I could reach them whenever needed. So here are a few essentials for me in my travels:

  1. Planner/Notebook - For my random thoughts and scribbles.
  2. Passport - Since my drivers license is expired and I’m the laziest person when it comes to renewing it, so I bring my passport instead.
  3. Card Case - For the cards that don’t fit my wallet anymore :\
  4. Make Up Bag/Toiletry Bag - Where all my bathroom essentials are packed.
  5. Wallet - Pretty self explanatory. Lol.
  6. iPod Touch & Earpods - Because I can’t live without my music.
  7. Phone - Essential for communication.
  8. Instax Camera - For those random shots that you just gotta shoot instantly.
  9. Eyebag concealer - My bags are the most annoying thing on earth, so I need this for life.
  10. Lip Balm - Like my eyebags, dry lips annoy the shit out of me as well.
  11. Sun Glasses - My eyes get irritated a lot with dust and the sun so, I need this baby for my eye protection.
I guess mine looks pretty normal. Do you also have any travel essentials?

#1/52

1/07/2017 12:39:00 pm

Just before 2016 ended, I've decided that I'll do a couple of projects to practice my writing and also to keep myself busy and committed to my new blog for 2017. It's no secret that I love writing, but, sometimes it takes more than just a random thought to get me writing something that makes sense. Lol.

For this, I've decided to do the 52 Week Instax Challenge--where I'll post a photo of an instax shot every week, following the given theme for that certain week.

The theme for this week: Self Portrait.

I love this photo because I look so happy in this. Usually, I'm very shy and conscious when posing for a camera for a formal shoot, but recently, I've been so comfortable in front of it. Selfies are a different thing because you do it when you're alone or whenever you feel. Shoots are sometimes with another person, so you're subject to judgements and criticisms. But, I feel so confident recently, I don't know why. That should be a good thing, right?

Another thing I love about this is that it was taken with an Instax camera. The thing about instant cameras and films is you have to make each shot count. It also shows imperfections, unlike how digital photos make us look so perfect in this age. Like how they do before with manual cameras, you have to be very careful when taking a shot because you only have few films to use. This is why I'm so glad that Instax and Polaroid cameras are available again because it gets people to use films only on things that they think are important.

I guess, that's it for the first photo for my 52 Week Instax Challenge. Do you have any ideas on what should be the theme for next week? Comment them below! :D

Christmas Vacation

Antique 2016

1/06/2017 02:57:00 pm

Antique is and will always be one of my favorite places of all time, my safe place. It will always be the place without judgements and where I find unconditional love from family. I believe I deserve this after I just had the worst year. The last few months of 2016 got me so down that it drove me to do some of the craziest things. Some of them I'm not proud of and would rather forget them than relive them all over again.

As soon as we got email from our HR about our schedule for the holidays, I immediately booked a trip to Antique to be with my family, relatives and most especially, my grandma. My parents were already there. They're now based in Bacolod but promised my grandma that they'll be with her during her birthday week every October and Christmas, so I am also trying to keep up with that.

This boy makes packing my luggage soooo hard!

My suit case was probably good for 2 weeks but you can never be sure. Plus, I can never "pack light" to save my life. I would rather lug around a bag with wheels than carry a heavy bag. Hehe.

My flight boards at 5:10pm on December 23rd to Kalibo and from there my parents will pick me up for a long drive to my dad's town. Morning of the 23rd, I decided to still go to work and just leave a few hours before my flight. Bad call. My Airasia flight got 3 hours delayed and we were able to fly around 8pm. I know better than to expect an on time flight, but 3 hours?? Sigh. I should've just completed my hours at work. Lol.

My flight is only an hour and a half, but I got out of the airport a little past 10pm. In all fairness to Airasia they made up for the delays by offering food at the airport. Still, I was starving when I got to Kalibo, so I asked my mom if we could drop by Jollibee for a little midnight snack and she happily agreed. I was so excited to see my parents; it's been the longest 10 months without them!

We got to my grandma's house past 1am. In the provincial sense, 1am is very, very, very, VERY late. Grandma's new house was built years ago but the ancestral house just sits beside it. The ancestral house's 2nd floor was destroyed during the Yolanda storm and we're very thankful that the new house was built and finished before it. We've stayed at the ancestral house when my cousins and I were little and I'm so glad to have been able to experience a little of my Dad's earlier life.

The cutest grandma!

Mornings are always meant for bonding with my grandma and family. It's so refreshing to wake up to humans--specially after spending the past months waking up next to cats and being alone most of the time in the condo. Although we spend most of the time asking my grandma if she's comfortable sitting, making her laugh and just annoying her in general; it's the highlight of our mornings. She's the cutest and she agrees that I'm her prettiest grandchild. I HAVE PROOF.

Random old log?

Afternoons are usually for our strolls and visiting relatives. Some of our relatives live a few distance away from us but can usually be reached by riding a trycycle or motorcycle. We usually go to Inolingan, where my dad's brother live with his family. We'd hijack our cousin to go to the sea shore, a 10 minute walk from their house's backyard.

My "kuya's" although I'm older than they are.

I love how simple living there is; as compared to Manila's loud and bustling noises. I'd take living like this over partying, the traffic and the busyness of the city ALL. THE. TIME.

The peaceful road and my cousin trying to feed the love of her life. :P

My cousins are also, without a doubt, some of the best people to hang out with. We don't need no booze or anything fancy to enjoy being with each other. You can just give us sand and the sea or a couch and we can talk each other's ears off for hours.

I don't know what we're talking about here but it captures us in our natural habitat. Lol.

It's no secret that I'm in love with sunsets. A little cliche, but it's true. I've always loved how it always manages to go down so beautifully. Antique's sunsets are always my favorite. It's so beautiful and unobstructed, I could look at it forever.

F A V O R I T E

My guy cousins, being the basketball buff that they are, are also part of their town's basketball league (liga). And us girls, being the ever supportive cousins that we are, are always there to cheer not only for them but for the whole team. We even distract the other team shooting from the free throw line. Hey, you do not mess with my family. Lol. It's always one of the most fun things about that place.

The simple but exciting league.

Because of the strong storm in Manila, my relatives who was supposed to leave a day earlier from me, got delayed until further notice. We were so happy because we get to spend another day with each other.  We seriously didn't want to get back to reality. Please leave us alone in our little Antique bubble.

My flight back was delayed (again) by an hour (seriously, Airasia??!). After spending 4 full days with family and relatives, I've felt so relaxed and so at peace that I didn't want to leave. I didn't want reality to catch up to me. But it needed to happen. My cats need me. Lol

Pre-Christmas digs. Also, COOPER!!

I didn't know that I needed this trip so much until I finally booked and was on my way there. Now, I feel so relaxed and I'm finally back to my no bullshit attitude because of this trip. The fresh air brought back the old Meg and I'm so happy she's back!!

I'm so excited for my travels for 2017. It really looks like a promising year for me and my random trips! :D

Family

Hello, 2017!

1/02/2017 12:53:00 pm

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I was supposed to do a year-end blog but decided against it after realizing how crappy my 2016 was. Much like others, 2016 for me was a year of disappointments and major heartbreak. It may not be the best year, nonetheless, it certainly taught me of who I am, how I want to be treated and what I want out of life. There is certainly a big room for improvement with how I want my life to go on, and how I want it to be, but it's about starting over and baby steps along the way. Go ME!

Being happy is always a choice. Like a friend told me at one of my lowest points during 2016, "Choose happiness." It's simple, but only after you take all the negativity away from yourself, the pain, the anger and the sadness; you can go ahead and choose to be happy. My mind was set to be out of that miserable zone, and I was able to. At least that's what I currently think so.

The Antique trip and being with my family, relatives and friends certainly brought me the clarity that I needed to welcome the new year.

New Year's spent with family and new friends!

Along with my renewed sense of self, I've decided 2017 will be a year full of positivity and activities. I'm claiming it. Positivity is a given but, activities on the other hand will be harder to fulfill at times. With that, I'll also be listing down a few resolutions to myself. They wont be restricted to 2017, but, can also be applicable or might even extend to the coming years.

  1. Teach myself to have lesser expectations about certain things and certain people. During my thesis defense in college, I seriously expected the worst to happen (bad grade or even fail the fucking thing) so what ever the result may be, I'll be ready to accept it. The same with people, sometimes I already expect for them to do some things in a certain way, so I always get my heart broken over the slightest things. I should really lighten up :)
  2. Let go of things I have no control over. I learnt recently that even if you give out advises freely, people will not always follow through. People will only listen to you, but you can't really help them unless they're ready to help themselves. So, let go.
  3. Think of things that made me happy before going to sleep. We're so busy finding faults that we often forget that you can also fins happiness over the smallest things.
  4. Be a little more thankful everyday. Along with little bouts of happiness in my day, I'll try to also find something to be thankful for before the day ends. It shouldn't have to be big, even as small as waking up can mean a big thing.
  5. Always think of that you're a WORK-IN-PROGRESS. I can improve myself and get back up whenever I'm on the ground. It's better than giving up and settling.
  6. Spend more time with family! That's a given!!
That's all I could think of this time, I guess I'll add more as time goes by :) Happy New Year again!
